Hitachi Energy, a global technology leader that is advancing a sustainable energy future for all, received a Health & Safety Excellence award from public utility company Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) for its commitment to environmental protection and health and safety at work.

Hitachi Energy was recognized for its commitment to prioritizing its employees’ well-being, which is evident in the health and wellness programs and training, its robust risk management strategy that mitigates potential hazards, and its continued improvement of its company’s culture.

CEM established its Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality awards in 2008 to recognize deserving business partners biannually that invest in the training and upskilling of their employees and create an occupational safety and health culture within the company. Over 65 global organizations have received this award in the past 15 years.

The utility company, which has the sole concession to transmit and distribute medium and low-voltage electricity in Macau, provides energy from gas turbines to buildings, offices, and households, enabling clients to get uninterrupted power services, distribution, and supply.

Internationally recognized as a leader in promoting health and safety, Hitachi Energy shares the same values with CEM, especially in its commitment to the continued improvement of its culture in the workplace and safety management systems.

“At Hitachi Energy, health and safety is our license to operate, it is deeply ingrained in our value system,” said Patrick Zhao, Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director – Asia at Hitachi Energy. “We greatly appreciate the acknowledgment of our comprehensive safety program and our team’s dedication and excellent implementation of the HSE (health, safety, and environment) program in collaboration with CEM.”

“It is necessary to have a sound safety climate and working environment to improve the competitiveness of organizations,” said Keegan Cheang, director of CEM’s Human Resources and Sustainability department. “Occupational safety management is important for the long-term development of enterprises and the safety and health of their employees.”

The 2021-2022 CEM Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Awards, which took place at the Macau Tower, recognized the outstanding performance of the utility firm’s contractors and suppliers regarding quality and occupational safety. The awards include four categories: Health and Safety Excellence, Quality Excellence, Environment Excellence, and Health and Safety and Environment Certificate of Recognition.
