Senior Legal Counsel – Strategic Litigation (Brazil)

The Opportunity

As a Senior Legal Counsel, this role is a key member of the Brazilian legal team and is primarily responsible for the strategic management of civil and other types of litigation and dispute resolution in Brazil.
The position acts as a senior legal advisor to all Business Units, with a strong focus on litigation risk management, claims strategy, dispute prevention, and resolution, ensuring alignment with corporate governance, business objectives, and risk appetite.

How You´ll Make an Impact

  • Act as the senior legal reference for strategic civil litigation, including judicial and administrative proceedings.
  • Lead the strategic management of lawsuits, defining legal strategies, positions and action plans aligned with business priorities.
  • Manage, coordinate and supervise external counsel, ensuring quality, consistency of legal arguments, cost control and performance management.
  • Conduct in-depth litigation risk assessments, prepare strategic legal opinions and support senior management in decision-making.
  • Drive litigation prevention initiatives, including early case assessment, dispute avoidance strategies and implementation of best practices to mitigate legal exposure.
  • Lead and support the resolution of disputes through negotiation, claims’ analysis, settlements, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms whenever appropriate.
  • Oversee claims management, including analysis of contingencies, provisions and potential financial exposure, in close coordination with Finance, Risk and Controlling teams.
  • Provide senior-level legal support to Business Units and Supporting Functions on matters with actual or potential litigation impact.
  • Identify recurring or systemic litigation risks and propose improvements in internal processes, contractual practices and operational workflows.
  • Prepare and present litigation reports, dashboards and strategic analyses to internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Promote legal awareness and deliver training initiatives focused on litigation risks, dispute prevention and best practices for the business.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.

Your background

Essential

  • Law degree and proven track record as a fully qualified senior lawyer, with solid and hands-on experience in litigation and contentious matters.
  • Extensive experience in strategic litigation management, including interaction with senior internal stakeholders and external law firms.
  • Strong ability to assess legal risks, define litigation strategies and provide clear, pragmatic and business-oriented legal advice.
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to operate at senior management level.
  • Proven ability to act autonomously, prioritizing complex matters and leading legal strategies in high-impact cases.
  • Demonstrated overall of minimum experience of six (6) years.
  • Residing in São Paulo/Brazil or surroundings
  • Fluent or Advanced in English.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in the manufacturing of equipment and energy solutions sector, or in companies within the electric power and energy industry.
  • In-house experience managing complex or material litigation in industrial, infrastructure or regulated environments.
  • Experience with litigation prevention, claims management and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Familiarity with litigation management systems, legal analytics and reporting tools.
  • Change management skills and experience driving continuous improvement in legal processes.
