The opportunity

The Engineering Manager – Bushing is responsible for leading and managing engineering activities for Bushing manufacturing in India, ensuring designs, processes, and deliverables meet customer requirements, Indian statutory norms, and international standards. The role ensures high-quality, cost-effective, and on-time engineering outputs while strengthening engineering capability, governance, and collaboration with global stakeholders.

How you'll make an impact

  • Lead and manage engineering processes to ensure they are fit for purpose, compliant with customer specifications, IEC/IEEE standards, and applicable Indian regulatory requirements (e.g., BIS, CEA where applicable).

  • Own and manage the Engineering function for Bushing products, delivering engineering outputs on time, within budget, and to defined quality standards.

  • Drive a strong design review and validation culture, ensuring structured checkpoints from design input to final design output.

  • Strengthen design control mechanisms, including design checklists, quality inspection cards, EoCs, test results, and validation records.

  • Reduce design errors, rework, and cost of poor quality (COPQ) through robust root cause analysis of test failures and field failures.

  • Continuously improve bushing design processes to enhance quality, productivity, and standardization.

  • Act as a key interface between Factory Engineering, R\&D, Global Product Support, and other global engineering hubs, ensuring alignment and smooth knowledge transfer.

  • Drive Design Anywhere – Produce Anywhere (DAPA) initiatives and global process changes.

  • Promote monthly design mistake sharing, best practice exchange, and structured knowledge management within the engineering team.

  • Ensure engineering competencies are developed and sustained in line with current and future market needs in India and APMEA.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers, creating a strong succession pipeline and technical leadership bench.

  • Foster a collaborative, safety‑first, and integrity‑driven culture, aligned with Hitachi Energy core values.

Your background

  • 12 to 15 years of experience in Bushing Design, Transformer Design or High Voltage Electrical Commodities (GIS).

  • People management experience is mandatory.

  • Willingness to travel for both domestic and international assignments.

  • Strong hands‑on experience in mechanical design and engineering, preferably in bushing, insulation systems, or high‑voltage equipment.

  • Exposure to breaker development, product care, or similar electro‑mechanical products is an advantage.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (CREO or equivalent).

  • Experience working in a factory engineering environment in India, with understanding of local manufacturing realities and supplier ecosystem.

  • Ability to manage cross‑functional and multicultural stakeholders, including global engineering teams and customers.
