Lily Xiaoli Yang - My Power Grids Story

Meet Our People | Zurich, Switzerland | 23.06.2020 | 2 min read

Lily shares that through her work, she gets to share her passion and inspire women to break gender or cultural misconceptions.

“I am proud to be a Women Engineer at PG because I get to work on a broad platform which allows me to explore and exhibit my talent; and in an environment where women talents are given equal opportunities with male colleagues.

Female talents in my team are well developed and promoted to key positions like project managers. From my end, I always seek improving gender diversity during recruitment.

Great focus from top leadership team to female talent development i.e. Female Talent Program is very inspiring and a great development opportunity to our female talents across the globe.

Commitment from leadership on the gender diversity ambition 2020-2025 is very inspiring and exciting.

I am proud because we have a great culture, the best people, and pioneering products to make the world greener and more sustainable.

In our team, we have:

  • Customer focus, we focus on customer expectation and experience
  • Growth, we have good opportunities to learn and grow fast
  • Engagement, my team is all highly engaged and motivated
  • Collaboration, we collaborate globally and cross-functionally to get things done fast

At present, I am leading my team in developing many technology and products to shape the future of sustainable energy and decarbonize the world. For example, high voltage switchgear for renewable energy integration, SF6 alternative switchgear and ultra-high voltage products. We are developing products with pioneering technology which makes the power grids stronger, smarter and greener worldwide.

I look forward to seeing Power Grids achieve our ambition by leveraging the synergy with Hitachi on innovation, technology leadership and customer focus, and utilizing the cutting-edge digital solution of Hitachi.

*Lily is one of the 14 female experts in Power Grids chosen to be part of the PG Female Talent Development Program (FTDP), an accelerator program to reach our D&I ambition of increasing gender diversity to 25% by 2025, with a focus on top leadership positions.
