Hitachi Energy Việt Nam và hành trình trở thành “Doanh nghiệp xanh của năm”

Hitachi Energy Vietnam has been named “Green Business of the Year” at the Nordic Business Awards 2025, recognizing its leadership in environmental sustainability and its contribution to Vietnam’s energy transition.

A strong commitment to sustainable development

This recognition reflects Hitachi Energy’s long-term commitment to sustainability - both at the system level, where its products enable renewable integration and energy transition; and at the product level, where the company reduces lifecycle carbon emissions and environmental impact.

The company’s approach is neither rhetorical nor cosmetic: it has achieved tangible reductions in its environmental footprint by embedding sustainable practices into every facet of its operations.

Since 2022, Hitachi Energy Vietnam has operated on 100% fossil-free electricity, achieved through a combination of both internal efficiency measures and via Energy attribute certificates (EACs). As a result, approximately 95% of its total energy consumption now comes from renewable sources and the company has cut Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by an impressive 98%. This positions Hitachi Energy Vietnam as a national leader in clean energy adoption and operational decarbonization. Despite expanding production capacity, the company maintained responsible resource use.

In 2024, waste intensity (per unit of revenue) fell by 35% compared to 2019, underscoring significant efficiency gains. Initiatives such as solar energy adoption, rainwater reuse, pallet recycling, and laptop donations further reinforce its commitment to sustainable operations.

Raising the bar: green factories and innovation

A landmark achievement in 2025 was the LEED Gold certification of the Transformer Factory in Bac Ninh - the first transformer factory at Hitachi Energy to receive this recognition. This milestone sets a new benchmark for sustainable manufacturing within the company and the broader industry.

Meanwhile, the Bac Ninh Transformers factory is producing an increasing number of transformers using FR3 natural ester fluid. Derived from renewable plant-based sources, this biodegradable, non-toxic insulating oil is much safer for the environment, aligning with Hitachi Energy’s mission to advance sustainability in every product it delivers.

The Supplier Sustainability Development Program (SSDP) has also made notable progress in Vietnam. Between 2021 and 2025, Hitachi Energy Transformer Factories successfully integrated ten critical suppliers into the SSDP framework. Each underwent rigorous third-party audits and corrective actions. This initiative has significantly mitigated supplier risk, uncovered key safety concerns, and prompted substantial investments in factory upgrades.

Culture of Responsibility

Environmental training is mandatory for all employees, and grassroots initiatives such as the Plastic Reduction Idea Contest and EV taxi promotion reflect strong employee engagement and a shared commitment to sustainable practices.

This marks the company’s fourth consecutive recognition at the Nordic Business Awards, following previous honors in HR development, employer branding, and workplace culture. The 2025 award affirms Hitachi Energy Vietnam’s reputation as a pioneer in sustainable energy and responsible business, driving innovation and impact across Vietnam and beyond.

Technological leadership: EconiQ® and beyond

Hitachi Energy Vietnam is also a key contributor to EconiQ®, the company’s game-changing SF₆-free technology. By manufacturing critical circuit breaker chambers for EconiQ switchgears—which use an innovative gas mixture with 99% lower CO₂-equivalent emissions—the company is helping to phase out sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆), a greenhouse gas 24,300 times more potent than CO₂.

Doan Luong Huy, Factory General Manager said: “The High Voltage Products factory in Bac Ninh is one of the major feeder factories for GPG circuit breakers and GIS to Hitachi Energy. Factory deliveries more than 70,000 spacers, over 10,000 interrupters, and ~4,500 poles per year. Every product we build here reflects our team’s dedication to precision, safety, and quality. From raw materials to final testing, we follow strict global standards—because our customers count on us for performance they can trust. We don’t just make high-voltage equipment. We build the future of energy.”
