Baseload Solar Generator

Hitachi Energy’s Baseload Solar Generator integrates  utility-scale solar PV, battery storage, DC coupling, and grid-forming power conversion in a modular solution. It stores excess solar energy and dispatches it when needed, targeting up to 24/7 renewable power delivery depending on site conditions, storage sizing, and operating strategy.

Key highlights

  • Firm, dispatchable renewable power
  • One shared grid connection
  • Grid-forming and VSM capability
  • Modular, utility-scale architecture

Overview

The Baseload Solar Generator is a new power generation asset class designed to turn variable solar energy into firm, dispatchable renewable power. It combines solar PV and battery energy storage behind a shared power conversion system and medium-voltage grid connection.

Advanced DC coupling enables direct solar-to-battery charging, captures energy that could otherwise be clipped or curtailed, and reduces conversion stages. Stored energy can then be dispatched after sunset, during periods of low solar generation, or when market and grid conditions require it.

Grid-forming virtual synchronous machine technology supports voltage and frequency control, fast frequency response, inertia, and system strength services.

Its modular architecture supports applications ranging from industrial and isolated networks to gigawatt-scale utility projects, with performance tailored to site conditions, storage sizing, and operating strategy.

Benefits

Increase solar utilization
Store clipped, curtailed, and low-voltage solar energy for later delivery.

Create new revenue opportunities
