Hitachi Energy Semiconductors and ABB Traction sign a multi-year Frame Sourcing Agreement

The Frame Agreement provides an important base load for their BiMOS factory and an excellent opportunity to continue Semiconductor IGBT innovation.

This contract further strengthens the partnership with ABB Traction and demonstrates that both parties can continue to count on each other after the separation from ABB Group in 2020 where Semiconductors became Hitachi Energy.

LinPak, as a key product of the supply scope, was pioneered by Hitachi Energy in 2014 and is increasingly recognized as the next generation IGBT modules for traction applications as it offers lower stray inductance, higher power density, higher reliability, and modularity. With LinPak as the building block, traction converters are much more compact, offer a higher efficiency, scalability, and lifetime.

At the signing ceremony, Edgar Keller, President of ABB’s Traction Division, commented “The cooperation with Hitachi Energy Semiconductors provides ABB the IGBT supply security for its global footprint”. Dr. Rainer Käsmaier, Managing Director Hitachi Energy Ltd Semiconductors, stated “in an ever increasingly competitive marketplace, we are very delighted to continue our high trust power electronic journey with ABB Traction from Diode, GTO to IGBT and SiC to enable reliable transportation”.
