Global Sustainability Manager for Transport, Trade & Logistics (f/m/d)

The Opportunity

Hitachi Energy’s Transport, Trade & Logistics (TTL) organization is looking for a Global Sustainability Manager to drive sustainability across global transport, logistics, and packaging operations in alignment with ESG frameworks. This role plays a key part in reducing environmental impact, strengthening regulatory compliance, and accelerating progress toward a sustainable energy future. You will lead initiatives to decarbonize transportation, optimize resources, and embed circular economy principles across air, sea, and land logistics. A strong focus lies on global packaging governance, standards, and regulatory compliance, including evolving frameworks such as PPWR. Operating in a highly international environment, you will balance strategic direction with hands-on execution while collaborating with diverse stakeholders across regions and business units. You will report directly to the Head of Trade, Transportation and Logistics.

How you’ll make an impact
  • Define and execute the global sustainability strategy for transport, logistics, and packaging, aligned with corporate ESG and net‑zero ambitions.
  • Lead CO₂ emissions reporting for logistics activities in line with GHG Protocol standards and corporate targets.
  • Identify and implement measures to reduce emissions across transportation routes, fleet usage, warehousing, and packaging.
  • Own global packaging standards and strategy, ensuring safety, quality, cost efficiency, material compliance, and circularity.
  • Govern packaging regulatory compliance globally, assessing impacts and mitigating risks in close collaboration with Legal and SCM functions.
  • Drive packaging market intelligence, monitoring trends, regulations, and indexes to inform strategy and stakeholders.
  • Engage and influence internal stakeholders across regions and functions to embed sustainability into daily operations.
Your background
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Transportation/Logistics.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Sustainability, SCM, or Transportation within complex, international environments.
  • Demonstrated project management skills to plan, coordinate, and deliver complex, cross‑functional initiatives on time and within scope.
  • Proven track record in ESG reporting, environmental impact assessments, monitoring/testing, and regulatory implementation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in global regulatory frameworks related to sustainability and packaging, with a strong focus on governance, risk mitigation, and operational compliance.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA (e.g. TM, GTS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑stakeholder programs, influence through facts and governance, and drive organizational change.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with business‑level fluency in English and high standards for accuracy, ethics, and governance.
