The Opportunity:

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Communication Systems Engineer to strengthen its capabilities in substation automation and protection communication networks. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission‑critical communication systems that enable reliable protection, monitoring, and control of power networks. The position involves close interaction with product management, engineering, testing, sales, and customers, and requires continuous engagement with evolving product features and communication technologies. The role is well suited for candidates who are technically curious, hands‑on, and motivated to contribute across design, deployment, and operational support within the Grid Automation ecosystem.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Contribute to engineering support activities by proposing technical solutions, optimizing feature usage, and supporting the adoption of new communication technologies in substation environments.

  • Support sales and tender engineering through technical validations, product selection, standards compliance checks, and development of technically sound solution concepts.

  • Work with the testing organization to define project‑specific test strategies, prepare FAT documentation, and support validation of new functionalities and technologies.

  • Provide commissioning and integration support at customer sites, ensuring compatibility with existing communication networks and adherence to customer requirements.

  • Participate in type testing and certification activities relevant to the Indian market, including regulatory and customer‑specific test requirements.

  • Handle after‑sales technical support and root cause analysis, identifying fault patterns and driving corrective and preventive actions to improve product performance.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by translating field experience and fault trends into functional enhancements and cost‑optimization proposals.

  • Deliver technical trainings to internal teams and external stakeholders as required for new product introductions or technology upgrades.

  • Prepare and present technical material for customers, seminars, pre‑tender discussions, and customer engagement forums.

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Living Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Your background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, or Communication Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of basic electronics and communication engineering fundamentals.

  • Exposure to or working knowledge of products such as ETL600, NSD570, FOX61x.

  • Familiarity with communication technologies including SDH, PDH, Ethernet, and MPLS‑TP.

  • Working knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC 60870‑5‑104, IEC 101, IEC 61850, and TCP/IP.

  • Good understanding of how communication systems support protection schemes and automation functions within substations.

  • Experience or exposure to engineering support, testing, commissioning, or technical after‑sales support in power or industrial communication systems.

  • Ability to continuously learn and stay aligned with new technologies, standards, and product updates.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working across cross‑functional and customer‑facing teams.

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
