Industrial Engineer – Generator Circuit-Breakers 80 - 100% (f/m/d)

The opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Industrial Engineer in our Production with a  high focus on Lean Production and  Process flow optimization to further develop our Generator Circuit-Breaker (GCB) production environment in Zurich. In this role, you will apply industrial engineering principles, automation, and digital manufacturing approaches to improve productivity, safety, quality, cost efficiency, and delivery performance in a high-variety, low-volume, engineering-to-order manufacturing environment.

You will play a key role in analyzing and improving complex GCB assembly, testing, material flow, and workstation concepts, while supporting the continuous development of a lean, digital, and future-ready factory.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Analyze current GCB production layouts, assembly workflows, testing processes, material flows, and operational procedures to identify improvement potential in efficiency, safety, quality, cost, and lead time, with a strong focus on automation and digitalization opportunities.

  • Design and implement optimized production processes, workstation concepts, automation solutions, equipment utilization concepts, and improved material flow for GCB assembly and testing.

  • Conduct time and motion studies, process mapping, value stream analysis, layout planning, capacity analysis, and bottleneck assessments to eliminate non-value-added activities and increase operational performance.

  • Develop, standardize, and improve work instructions, standard operating procedures, manufacturing documentation, and digital shopfloor processes for GCB assembly, testing, and logistics operations.

  • Evaluate, specify, and implement new manufacturing technologies such as automated handling systems, smart tools, digital work instructions, MES-related solutions, and data-driven improvement applications.

  • Support industrialization activities, new product implementation, series ramp-ups, CAPEX initiatives, equipment procurement, PFMEA activities, and the introduction of new tools, jigs, fixtures, and testing equipment.

  • Collaborate closely with production, testing, engineering, industrialization, quality, supply chain, planning, HSE, project management, and product management teams to ensure robust and sustainable process improvements.

  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, Lean Manufacturing projects, Kaizen activities, Six Sigma-related improvements, shopfloor optimization, and digital factory initiatives.

  • Maintain and improve manufacturing master data, production standards, routing information, and KPI-based performance transparency to support efficient planning and execution.

  • Contribute to the long-term development of the GCB factory by identifying future automation potential, improving ergonomics, strengthening safety, and enabling scalable production capabilities.

Your background

  • Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Professional experience in industrial engineering, production engineering, automation, industrialization, or manufacturing process improvement is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of process optimization, Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement methods, Kaizen, Six Sigma, value stream mapping, time studies, and statistical process control.

  • Experience in complex assembly environments, high-voltage products, electrical equipment manufacturing, engineering-to-order production, or high-variety/low-volume manufacturing is highly desirable.

  • Good knowledge of workstation design, layout planning, tooling concepts, ergonomics, equipment specification, manufacturing documentation, and structured problem solving.

  • Familiarity with SAP, MES, digital work instructions, data analysis tools, or production KPI dashboards is an advantage.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across operations, engineering, supply chain, quality, HSE, and project teams.

  • Structured, analytical, hands-on, and solution-oriented mindset with the ability to manage several improvement projects simultaneously.

  • Business fluent in English and German.
