Operating Unit Engineering Manager for Substation Automation Systems, HUB Europe

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Engineering Manager within the Operating Unit, Substation Automation Systems Europe. In this role, you will provide the professional engineering resources required for the design, engineering, testing, and commissioning of systems delivered through commercial projects under the responsibility of the Operating Unit.

You will drive operational and execution excellence through effective engineering management while fostering collaboration across the engineering community within the Operating Unit's countries to share solutions, balance workloads, and leverage lessons learned.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Allocating the right engineering resources to project teams in accordance with S&OP processes.

  • Establishing efficient interfaces between engineering teams and OPCs while increasing OPC utilization.

  • Managing customer relationships with respect to technical requirements.

In this role, you will report to the Operating Unit Manager, Substation Automation Systems Europe.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Lead the engineering teams and own the performance management of engineering deliverables across the Operating Unit in Europe.

  • Serve as the Business Process Owner for engineering and testing processes.

  • Mentor and develop engineering function leaders and team members, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, as well as internal and external stakeholders.

  • Coordinate the implementation of and adherence to global engineering processes, standards, practices, procedures, tools, and digitalization initiatives in collaboration with the Global Product Group and other Operating Units across the Business Unit.

  • Define and lead the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes and tools, aligned with Business Unit and Global Product Group strategies.

  • Monitor KPIs and performance metrics to ensure operational excellence and strategic alignment.

  • Participate in the budgeting process together with the Operating Unit Manager and Controller.

  • Ensure that the area of responsibility is structured to support the business model, adequately staffed with skilled resources, and effectively managed. Guide, motivate, and develop direct and indirect reports in accordance with HR policies. Oversee competency assessments and ensure engineering personnel hold the appropriate licenses and certifications.

Your Background

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field.

  • More than 15 years of engineering experience in the energy sector, including at least 5 years in a global leadership role.

  • A results-oriented leader with a strong passion for people development, leadership, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration.

  • An excellent communicator with the ability to influence beyond your direct organizational responsibilities and think strategically.

  • Experience working within a multinational corporation and a global engineering environment.

  • Strong knowledge of energy systems, grid infrastructure, renewable technologies, and regulatory frameworks within the utility and/or industrial infrastructure project business, combined with a solid understanding of engineering principles and a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects across multiple geographies.
