COUNTRY TRADE COMPLIANCE MANAGER – SWEDEN

At Hitachi Energy, our Global Trade team helps the business operate across borders in a responsible, compliant, and efficient way.
We are looking for a trade compliance professional who can lead through influence, build strong stakeholder relationships, and translate complex trade and customs regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance.
In this role, you will support the implementation of the Hitachi Energy Global Trade Program (GTP) in Sweden working closely with local management, Business Units, regional and global trade teams, and relevant authorities, including the Swedish Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP).
You will act as a trusted advisor, project lead and team manager, helping the business manage trade compliance risks, maintain strong authority engagement, drive improvement initiatives, and deliver consistent, sustainable ways of working.
The position is based in Västerås (preferred location) or Ludvika, Sweden.
THE POSITION
- Lead and coordinate country-level execution of the Global Trade Management program in Sweden, ensuring alignment with global strategy, regional priorities, and local business needs.
- Build strong relationships with local management, Business Units, functions, trade compliance stakeholders, and ISP, acting as a trusted advisor on export controls, customs compliance, sanctions, screening, trade flows, and duty spend.
- Ensure strong customs compliance across import and export activities, including customs procedures, classification, valuation, origin, documentation, broker management, and alignment with internal controls.
- Translate Swedish, EU, and global trade compliance requirements into clear policies, procedures, and business guidance, in coordination with the CTCM and regional or global trade teams.
- Lead risk identification, issue management, authority engagement, and escalation for trade compliance matters, ensuring risks, licensing topics, and mitigation actions are clearly communicated to business leaders and trade compliance leadership.
- Manage and contribute to trade compliance projects, including process improvements, audit remediation, regulatory change implementation, licensing workflows, authority interactions, and the optimization of tools and automation such as SAP GTS.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Supply Chain, Sales, Legal, Finance, Engineering, Logistics, and other stakeholders to embed trade compliance into daily operations and business decisions.
- Support local management in understanding the business impact of regulatory changes, audit findings, operational risks, and required mitigation plans, ensuring timely follow-up and sustainable implementation.
YOUR BACKGROUND
- Degree in trade, law, economics, international relations/business, or a related field (graduate or postgraduate required; EU legal qualification or international trade background preferred)
- Proven experience engaging and collaborating with the Swedish Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP), including export licensing, authority communication, and follow-up on strategic product matters.
- Bringing strong understanding of complex products, processes, and regulatory environments
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in export controls, sanctions, customs compliance, supply chain compliance, and practical customs procedures, including imports, exports, classification, valuation, origin, and customs documentation.
- Strong specialist knowledge of EU trade regulations and sanctions frameworks Fluency in both written and spoken Swedish and English; additional Nordic or European languages (e.g., Norwegian, Danish, Estonian, Finnish) are a plus
- Solid understanding of SAP systems, with SAP GTS experience considered a strong advantage
- Knowledge of material master data and product classification (HS/ECN) is highly valued
- Proven experience of project management
- Swedish citizenship
