Major expansion planned for cooling systems factory in Sweden

Features | 29.12.2025 | 2 min read

Hitachi Energy is investing approx. $77 million USD in a comprehensive expansion in Landskrona, Sweden, to meet the increasing global demand for its advanced cooling systems.

What does this investment mean?

  • Create new jobs and upskill local workforce with enhanced training programs
  • Consolidate operations from three facilities into one in Landskrona, Sweden
  • Double production capacity

For over 40 years, Hitachi Energy’s Landskrona factory has manufactured and supplied advanced cooling systems for power transmission. These systems range from large HVDC converters to vehicle charging infrastructure, where deionized water safely removes heat during conversion between direct and alternating current.

Driven by the global shift toward electrification and the rising demand for transmission solutions, boosting cooling system manufacturing capacity has become essential. Earlier this month, Hitachi Energy announced a major expansion of its cooling systems factory in Landskrona, Sweden. To secure future operations, the company is acquiring the industrial property Björnen 12, which will become the central hub for its ongoing investment and development.

Investing approximately $77 million USD, the new facility enables Hitachi Energy to consolidate its current production and office spaces under one roof. Owning and developing the facility not only provides cost-effectiveness, and flexibility but also supports continued expansion in line with the business’s growth.

The expansion of our Landskrona facility marks a significant milestone in our strategic vision to drive innovation and reinforce our technology leadership. For decades, this factory has been central to producing advanced cooling systems that support customers worldwide - from HVDC to e-mobility. This technology is instrumental in shaping a more resilient energy future.
