Michail is fostering innovation with an inclusive and collaborative mindset

My name is Michail Vasiladiotis. I am 36 years old, born and raised in Athens, Greece. In 2010, I came to Switzerland and received my Ph.D. in Power Electronics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Six years ago, I started as a research and development (R&D) engineer in the company. Since 2019, I am leading a high-performance group of 14 R&D specialists for power converter systems and control, as Team Manager for Power Conversion at our Grid Integration Business Unit in Turgi.

A vision of success

In my current role, I am responsible for ensuring that our team has the right skills and expertise to implement our product developments and customer projects successfully. I provide development plans and coaching for team members to grow professionally. I balance diverse needs and interests, set priorities, and give the team a long-term vision. It also involves fostering an environment of mutual respect and good teamwork. Recent challenges have included rapidly building an e-Mobility R&D team in a dynamic market environment and increasing the efficiency of collaboration between Hitachi Energy's R&D teams in Switzerland and Sweden to develop a next-generation control platform for our product portfolio.

As a Hitachi Energy employee, I am proud to lead some of the most innovative technology developments in the world, resulting in real-world applications and products such as frequency converters for pumped hydro storage plants and railway interties. And I can do this together with a dedicated, highly motivated multicultural and international team! We are challenging each other to make the world a better place. With our work in sustainable energy applications, we are thus contributing to the energy transition.

Working on the future with motivation and satisfaction

I'm looking forward to growing in my role while moving my team and our projects forward. I am very inspired by working with motivated and satisfied colleagues to develop and implement innovative solutions that have a positive impact on the energy industry and, ultimately, on our common future. An example of this was the development of the world's first direct 3ph/3ph modular multilevel converter (MMC) for variable-speed pumped hydro storage systems, which went into operation in Austria in 2021.
