R&D Senior Design Engineer

The opportunity

Are you an experienced software professional with a passion for developing solutions that support critical infrastructure and the energy transition? Join Hitachi Energy's Grid Automation business as an R&D Senior Design Engineer in Vaasa or Helsinki, Finland.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of our MicroSCADA X product portfolio, a leading platform used by utilities and industries to monitor and control energy systems. As part of our local R&D team in Finland and a global development network, you will help design, develop, and continuously improve innovative software solutions that meet the highest quality and reliability standards.

How you'll make an impact

  • Contribute to the development and evolution of the MicroSCADA X product portfolio.
  • Participate in software architecture discussions and evaluate technical design alternatives.
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions using modern development practices.
  • Review software designs and code to ensure quality, maintainability, and performance.
  • Create and maintain design documentation and quality-related artifacts.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across global, multi-site development teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to software quality, cybersecurity, and development processes.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, including AI-driven development approaches and industry best practices.

Your background

  • Several years of experience in software development and engineering.
  • Strong programming skills in C++, C#, and the .NET Framework.
  • Hands-on experience with Visual Studio, Git, and Azure DevOps.
  • Experience developing software for Windows-based real-time or mission-critical environments.
  • Practical knowledge of unit testing frameworks and software quality assurance practices.
  • Experience with performance analysis and profiling in Windows environments.
  • Familiarity with software development in international and multi-site project environments.
  • An open mindset and willingness to learn new technologies and processes, including AI, cybersecurity, root cause analysis, and modern software engineering methods.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Fluency in English and Finnish; other language skills are considered an advantage.
