Powering Grid Resilience Through Collaboration and Innovation

Electricity demand continues to rise, bringing both opportunities and unprecedented challenges. Grid operators face growing pressure to maintain reliability, stability, and resilience while responding to changing market dynamics.

Join industry leaders, utility experts, consultants, regulators, and power system specialists at the FACTS User Group Meeting, a Hitachi Energy’s platform to explore how Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) technologies and help strengthen power grids, increase transmission capacity, and support evolving needs.

This event is designed to foster open dialogue, practical learning, and meaningful connections. Whether you are involved in planning, operating, studying, or modernizing power systems, you'll gain valuable perspectives from experts and peers facing similar challenges across the industry.

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from a distinguished IEEE PES award-winning, who will share insights on FACTS innovations that are shaping the future of power systems. Register today.

Preliminary Agenda

day 1
Thursday 23 July
19:00 - 21:00
Powering connections | Terrasse Alizée

We believe in the power of connections. To kick off the FACTS User Group Meeting, join us for a relaxed evening by the pool where you can connect with peers, exchange ideas, and build new relationships in a casual setting. Since it's summertime, feel free to dress comfortably—shirts and shorts are welcome.

Enjoy a continental breakfast to power up your day with us.

08:31 - 09:00
Industry trends, challenges, and opportunities

The energy landscape across Canada and the United States is evolving rapidly. Rising electricity demand driven by electrification, AI and data centers, industrial growth, and renewable energy integration is creating new opportunities but also challenges for the grid. As aging infrastructure, resilience needs, and changing regulatory priorities reshape the industry, the need to modernize power systems, increase capacity, and strengthen reliability has never been greater.

Join the conversation as we explore these drivers and discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of energy.

Functional requirements - a trend in today’s changing power grids

Power grids are increasingly becoming less predictive and also more complicated in nature. The application of rapidly evolving GFM and Enhanced STATCOMs require alternative thinking to meet the future demands whilst being able to specify deterministic performance requirements.

Today we are already seeing functional requirements in specifications, and requirements for OEMs to propose technology and rating.

Enhanced STATCOM for Improved Grid Support – How performance during faults and frequency excursions has been improved with today’s solutions

A strong system has the ability to operate in a stable manner and to recover intact from major disturbances. What does a STATCOM look like when it provides more services than just voltage support?

Join this session to learn how STATCOMs with energy storage provide improved fault performance and inertia support.
