Hitachi Energy strengthens power transformer manufacturing in Türkiye to meet growing global demand

Features | 19.06.2025 | 2 min read

As global electricity demand continues to surge – driven by electrification, digitalization, and decarbonization – energy systems are under pressure to evolve.

The current supply chain cannot meet the power grid's expansion requirements - manufacturing can’t keep up, and vital technologies and equipment are not being produced at the requisite speed or scale.

Hitachi Energy is meeting this challenge by bolstering capacity across the industry and leveraging its pioneering spirit to develop innovative new technologies.

As part of this global strategy, the company is strengthening its power transformer manufacturing operations in Türkiye to meet the growing demand for sustainable, high-quality energy infrastructure across Türkiye, Europe, and Asia. This significant expansion is essential to meet the ever-growing customer demand and delivery lead times while maintaining superior quality. The new state-of-the-art 45,000-sq m. factory in Dilovasi will help boost manufacturing capacity by 70 percent and create 30 percent more jobs in the region.

“The move to the Organized Industrial Zone in Dilovası offers significant advantages, including ease of transportation of transformers due to its proximity to the commercial port.

This expansion underscores our commitment to supporting the energy transition and meeting the decarbonization needs of our customers.”

Demonstrating Hitachi Energy’s commitment to sustainability, the new facility will be an ultra-low-carbon factory, reducing carbon emissions by about 95 percent.1 This initiative supports the company's broader strategy to achieve its ambitious climate goals.

Part of the expansion involves simplifying operations and enabling the workforce to benefit from the latest technology and superior health and safety standards through enhanced digitalization of operations. It will also contribute to an efficient and sustainable environmentally friendly production process.

The factory will create jobs, support local communities, and provide critical infrastructure for a more sustainable, flexible, and secure energy system.

1 All manufacturing processes will be electrified and building HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning) carried out by energy efficient electrified heat-pump technology, reducing carbon emissions by about 95 percent. The remaining carbon emissions emanate mainly from vehicles and fork-lifts in the factory, which will be future areas of improvement. All purchased electricity will be fossil-free wherever possible as per Hitachi Energy’s global initiative which is based on GHG Protocol Scope 2 market-based accounting for purchased electricity.
