Meet our people: Monica Ortiz

Meet Our People | 21.11.2023 | 2 min read

My name is Monica Ortiz, I’m a team leader of Power Grids in Grid Automation (PGGA) Revenue Operations, Power Grids in Grid Integration (PGGI) Brazil, PGGI & PGGA Mexico and PGGI Canada for the CCC (Controlling Capabilty Centers), within the Common Shared Services (CSS) Hub in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

I’m from Mexico, I studied Business Administration at Politécnica University, but then destiny took me into the number’s world, so I did a master’s degree in Finance at Tecmilenio University, and then I also studied Public Accounting at Universidad Tecnológica Latinoamericana en Línea (UTEL).

As for my professional career, I believe the biggest challenge I´ve faced was learning SAP. It was an end of the month closing process when I was changed to a new role at the same time that our SAP expert pursued a new opportunity.

I needed to quickly learn everything by myself and complete online trainings. It took me a long time to finish that closing process, but I wouldn’t have learned that much if it the situation were different.

My biggest passion

One of my deepest passions is immersing myself in different cultures and getting to know and meet new people. I love traveling to new places and experiencing the local customs, traditions, and cuisine.

I believe it’s a way to connect with people at a human level, because this also helps me appreciate the richness of our diversity, which makes me want to grow and learn more.

I lived in Poland for a year during a cultural exchange and I got to spend a lot of time with a girl from Brazil and another one from Canada; we became like sisters. I was impressed with how even though we spoke a mix of languages like Polish, Portuguese, English and Spanish, we could all understand each other perfectly.

Living in a different place helped me not only to understand that country’s culture, but also to value and appreciate Mexico, my friends and family even more.

#ProudToBeHitachiEnergy

I’m really proud of working at Hitachi Energy, mainly because I feel the company really cares and helps employees to have a good work environment with a diverse team.

Also, because working in a company that has sustainability and innovation at its core fills me with pride, knowing that we are having a positive impact on the environment.

Something I’m excited for in the future is technology, specially to see how our company can contribute to climate change issues, and help making a better world for our children, like my 2-year-old daughter and 3 nephews, knowing that they will have opportunities to live in a more sustainable and connected world.
