For more than a century, innovation has helped shape the electricity system. From the world's first three-phase transmission system in 1893 to the first utility communication network with quantum-safe encryption in 2019, Europe's first multi-terminal HVDC Light VSC installation in 2024, and a 765 kV natural ester-filled transformer in 2025, each milestone has contributed to the next chapter of electrification.
From Madeira to Queensland
The impact of electrification can be seen in projects around the world. In Madeira, a 15 MW/15 MWh battery energy storage system is helping integrate more renewable energy into an isolated grid. In Queensland, Australia, we're supporting Akaysha Energy's 155 MW/298 MWh battery project through a 20-year HMAX Energy service agreement, helping strengthen grid stability and support future renewable growth.
