The Scale of What's Ahead
Electricity demand is growing rapidly as economies electrify and the deployment of renewable energy accelerates. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), achieving national energy and climate goals will require adding or refurbishing more than 80 million kilometers of grid infrastructure by 2040, equivalent to rebuilding the world's entire existing electricity grid.
Solving the energy trilemma at scale will take time
"The electricity era is accelerating, and power grids must expand at an unprecedented pace, putting supply chains under pressure.
Central to this transformation is addressing the energy trilemma: sustainability, security, and affordability must be advanced simultaneously, not treated as competing priorities."
Andreas Schierenbeck | CEO, Hitachi Energy
Why the definition of sustainability is shifting
"Sustainability itself is evolving. It's no longer judged only on environmental performance. It's becoming a more complete measure of how businesses creates lasting value for society and the planet."
Alicia Arguello | Global Head of Sustainability
