Mechanical Design Engineer

The opportunity

We are looking for a dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer at Hitachi Energy, Transformers business in Vaasa, Finland. This is an opportunity to work with engineering challenges related to specialty transformers. In this position you will be part of the order delivery process of the most complex and demanding transformer and reactor designs that the industry has to offer.  This role includes hands-on participation in different engineering tasks as well as communication with different stakeholders.

There is more than one way to approach this role. You can be a strong professional with several years of relevant experience or a recently graduated/graduating student with willingness and courage to test your limits in learning new things and taking on the challenges that are part of our daily work. Depending on your background, we will provide training and support to help you grow and develop into this role. 

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Mechanical design of transformer steel structures, tank and cover
  • Incorporation of all accessories to the tank and cover design
  • Create and maintain product structures
  • Close communication with procurement, production and quality
  • Close cooperation with external partners and subcontractors

Your background

  • BSc or MSc in mechanical engineering
  • Good understanding in mechanical engineering as well as in manufacturing techniques and material technology. Basic understanding in electrical engineering is also expected
  • Skills in 3D CAD program, preferably Creo
  • Skills in PLM systems, preferably Windchill
  • You shall be self-guided, systematic, analytic, organized and accurate in your way of working 
  • Strong verbal and written skills in Finnish and English. Other language skills are considered as an advantage
  • You will work independently and as a member of a team
  • Capable of interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and skillsets
