R&D Hardware Electronics Engineer in HVDC

The Opportunity

We are now looking for passionate individuals to join our growing team at the Hitachi Energy Technology Center in Krakow. You will contribute to the heart of HVDC stations: the Modular Advanced Control for HVDC (MACH™) system – a control system designed to operate 24/7 for over thirty years, managing all control and protection functions.

As part of our global R&D organization, you will collaborate daily with MACH™ teams in Sweden and India, to develop end-to-end solutions that integrate electronic hardware, FPGA, and embedded software.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Participate in the full lifecycle of hardware platforms for HVDC Control & Protection systems – from concept, requirements, simulations, prototyping, and testing to release and production support.

• Design robust analogue/digital electronics, including high-speed circuits, optoelectronics, gate drivers, and power electronics.

• Create conceptual designs based on initial requirements and influence technology choices with your expertise.

• Work with simulations, component selection, schematics, and PCB layout.

• Prototype, verify, and validate designs; manage test infrastructure and setups.

• Prepare and maintain technical documentation.

• Lead technical reviews and contribute to project planning.

• Drive improvements in processes and tools.

• Uphold Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for your actions and caring for colleagues and the business.

Your Background

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related field.

• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in hardware design for analogue and digital circuits.

• Practical knowledge of hardware design processes and tools (e.g., SPICE, Altium, PADS, Zuken CADSTAR).

• Experience with laboratory test and measurement equipment, circuit board testing, and reworking.

• Strong commitment to teamwork, with the ability to self-organize and stay task-oriented.

• Awareness of relevant industry standards and methodologies.

• Intermediate English (B1) for technical communication.

It would be advantage:

• Experience with high-speed electronic circuits and interfaces (FPGA, CPUs, Memories, Backplanes).

• Experience in PCB layout design and PCBA manufacturing.

• Knowledge of Power Electronics (gate drivers, power supplies, magnetics).

• Experience in EMC, Signal Integrity, and Power Integrity.

• Familiarity with FPGA design or embedded programming tools.

• Understanding of R&D processes, risk management (DFMEA), and IP.
