Earth Day – ‘Restore our Earth™’: The Day of Green Pledge

As we approach the 51st Earth Day on April 22, 2021, it is yet another opportunity for all of us at Hitachi ABB Power Grids to reinforce our pledge to continue working towards a greener tomorrow by reducing greenhouse gas emissions to help mitigate climate change.

Addressing global warming and arresting the adverse impact of climate change has continued to be an everyday mission for us. We believe that access to energy is essential to global development. Our plan to harness our expertise in the energy sector to raise energy efficiency. This will be fulfilled by increasing the share of renewables in our energy mix, as well as offering digital solutions like smart buildings, sustainable infrastructure, clean energy, mobility systems, and energy efficiency. These are some of the ways we have been addressing the climate emergency.

We have a long-term goal of making Hitachi ABB Power Grids completely carbon neutral. Now more than ever, the world needs innovative and sustainable energy solutions to address the challenges facing society. By combining digital technologies with our world-class power grid solutions, we are playing an active role in the global transformation and decarbonization of energy that will support a sustainable energy future. We are at the forefront of sustainable energy innovation.

This year Earth Day comes at a dire juncture for the environment and climate emergency, and the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that 2021 is a `make or break’ year for climate change mitigation.  It is a call for urgent action without losing any more time, and we at Hitachi ABB Power Grids are committed to climate change and circular economy. An important element of this commitment is to support the energy transition, and we see this as happening in the rapid change taking place in the shift from fossil fuels to electricity. It is a matter of time that electricity will be the backbone of the entire energy system.

This energy transition is the pivot on which sustainability will be built, and that will complement the endeavors to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Standing on the brink of a climate crisis, we should be devoting a lot more energy, time, and resources to this, particularly in the background of global CO2 emissions inching back to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, after a brief calm during the lockdowns.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids is a green-conscious organization. We are pioneering future power systems that are increasing access to reliable, flexible, sustainable, and affordable energy. We are helping to accelerate the energy transition. In close collaboration, our experts are enabling our customers to plan, build, operate and maintain the electricity backbone and future power systems needed by citizens, countries, regions, and the world, to accelerate progress towards a carbon-neutral energy future. We are committed to doing this in a way that creates a real social, environmental, and economic value.

Contributing to accelerating energy transition is imperative for Hitachi ABB Power Grids, and we have been increasingly focused on developing energy platforms and digital solutions to help overcome the challenges of moving towards a carbon-neutral energy system. We are convinced that a transition to electricity is on acceleration on the back of the three pillars which we have identified as – shift from fossil-based to renewable power generation, growing electrification of transportation, industry, and buildings sectors and the increase in sustainable energy carriers which complements direct electrification.

There is a growing need for sustainable energy in the world. Sustainable energy solutions help society-related projects, in response to how to get the economy moving again (Greening’ the economy and ‘build back better’) which simultaneously contributes to the climate change targets. Powering Good for a sustainable energy future, with pioneering and digital technologies, as the partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener grid.

We are proud to bring value in creating sustainable societies towards a carbon-neutral future!
