Pioneering HVDC Light® technology will enable Dogger Bank Wind Farm to support UK’s clean electricity demand, powering six million UK homes.

Pioneering HVDC Light® technology will enable Dogger Bank Wind Farm to support UK’s clean electricity demand, powering six million UK homes. Hitachi Energy’s StakPak reverse-conducting IGBT technology (BiGT 5200 V / 2000 kA) will be deployed in the HVDC Light system at the world’s largest wind farm. The most powerful BiGT modules meet all system requirements, providing the highest current rating capability with the lowest on-state resistance, combined with Short Circuit Failure Mode and a very long guaranteed lifetime.
Key features and benefits:
− The press-pack module enables a compact valve design
− Highest current rating allows high power transmission without paralleling
− Short Circuit Failure Mode simplifies protection circuitry
− Longest possible lifetime achieved by integrating the IGBT and freewheeling diode in a single chip, ensuring a more stable operating temperature
− Modular approach, with different current ratings in the same housing, simplifies valve design
− Surge current rating matches system design, eliminating the need for additional components
− Explosion-proof housing without demanding requirements for uniformity of clamping force in a stack
− Fully automated assembly and testing
