Nandinee Haq harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to accelerate a net-zero future for all

Nandinee Haq, Scientist, Hitachi Energy in Canada

Hi. My name is Nandinee Haq. I work as a Scientist in the Hitachi Energy Research team in Montreal, Canada. Our diverse team brings experts from different fields to create solutions for future grids. As a scientist in Artificial Intelligence, I explore the challenges we must overcome and propose data-driven solutions to make the autonomous grid a reality.

I was pursuing machine-learning applications in healthcare before I joined Hitachi Energy. Right after joining the company, I realized I had moved from one essential industry to another. Electricity will be the backbone of achieving carbon neutrality, and it feels great to make a real, meaningful impact on society through my work.

Hitachi Energy is a place where diversity and inclusion are practiced and celebrated. I felt welcomed from the very first day, even though I came from a different background. Our team fosters a global collaborative environment where we work with colleagues across the world, which I enjoy very much.

I particularly liked the opportunity to grow here. Less than two years into the company, and I’m already leading a project where we are bringing AI solutions to energy markets.

Once, I was in a meeting, and I learned that one of my colleagues, whom I never met before, had heard good things about my work and wanted to join the meeting just to meet me. That felt so good, as these small events are as meaningful as any other direct compliments.

Tomorrow’s grid will be autonomous, and I’m proud that in Hitachi Energy, I get to harness the power of AI to make this a reality.
