Digitalization and Automation Factory Specialist / Lead

The opportunity
We are now looking for a Digitalization and Automation Factory Specialist/Lead at Hitachi Energy, Transformers business in Vaasa. The position is fixed-term for the period September 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027.

As part of the factory operations team, you will be responsible for the integration of digital technologies and automation within a manufacturing environment. Your responsibilities will include implementing smart factory initiatives, optimizing production processes through automation, and ensuring seamless connectivity of digital systems. You will support and coordinate digital and automation projects in line with HUB’s digital and automation strategy.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Develop and implement strategies for the integration of digital technologies and automation in the manufacturing process.
  • Oversee the deployment and integration of Industry 4.0 technologies within the factory, including IoT devices, robotics, and other automation solutions.
  • Analyse existing production workflows and identify opportunities for automation to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall productivity.
  • Implement systems for monitoring key performance indicators related to digital and automation processes, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to production goals.
  • Improve and further develop digital reports, digital KPI dashboards, (digital) visual reporting, data analysis and digital inspection cards (QIC).   
  • Collaborate with different internal stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of digital and automation solutions, fostering a cohesive and interconnected manufacturing environment.
  • Lead initiatives to transform the factory into a smart facility, utilizing real-time data and analytics to make informed decisions and optimize operations.
  • Ensure that digital and automation solutions contribute to maintaining or improving product quality standards, implementing measures to address any deviations.
  • Provide training programs for factory personnel on new technologies, automation systems, and digital processes to ensure effective implementation and operation.
  • Identify and address potential risks associated with digital and automation technologies, implementing strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the continuity of operations.
  • Provide regular updates and reporting to the HUB Digitalization & Automation team on ongoing and upcoming projects.

Your background

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, industrial automation, manufacturing, computer science, software engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of digital technologies, automation systems, and Industry 4.0 concepts. Familiarity with IoT, robotics, data analytics, and integration platforms is essential.
  • Proficient with Power Platform.
  • Some years of experience as the specialist/lead of digitalization in the manufacturing area and familiar with operation process.
  • Strong project management skills to lead the planning, execution, and successful implementation of digital and automation initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex technological concepts to diverse stakeholders, including non-technical team members and senior management.
  • Skills in areas such as manufacturing digitalization, automation and process analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify challenges in manufacturing processes and develop innovative solutions using digital and automation technologies.
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written Finnish and English required.
