Hitachi Energy was awarded Forbes China’s 2025 Best ESG Practice Employer on Sept. 1, in recognition of its industry-leading sustainability strategy and talent management excellence.

Launched in 2021, the Forbes China Best Employers initiative is now in its fifth edition. Each year, the award categories are thoughtfully crafted to reflect emerging trends in employer-employee relationships, adopting a dual perspective from both employers and employees. The evaluation is conducted across multiple dimensions to ensure professionalism and independence. In 2025, hundreds of companies participated in the selection process.

With its Purpose, “Inspire the next era of sustainable energy,” Hitachi Energy sets sustainability at the core of its own operations and its wider value chain.

Its sustainability strategy from 2024 has three key strands for the actions it takes: Planet, People, and Principles.

  • Planet - Accelerating the clean energy transition while boosting circularity and biodiversity
  • People - Supporting a safe, inclusive, equitable, and just energy transition
  • Principles - Taking responsibility for its governance and employee behaviors, as well as its value chain

We implement an ethical and transparent approach to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting, employing sustainability metrics and external verification to drive continuous improvement that benefits the planet, our customers, and our bottom line.

Actively advancing its sustainability strategy, Hitachi Energy is building a sustainable supply chain, implementing decarbonization initiatives, and ensuring responsible sourcing of raw materials. At the same time, through digital transformation, the company enhances operational excellence and actively promotes green factory certifications, thereby continuously strengthening its ESG governance and risk management framework.

In market expansion and technological innovation, Hitachi Energy leverages its leading high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission technology to improve the efficiency of renewable energy transmission. The company continues to drive technological breakthroughs, focusing on eco-efficient products, digitalization, and power electronics technologies, providing systematic solutions to support China’s low-carbon transition. Additionally, through strategic investments in advanced manufacturing, Hitachi Energy supports local governments in China in developing new, quality productive forces in the energy sector.

In talent management, Hitachi Energy deeply integrates sustainability principles into every stage of employee development. The company places a strong emphasis on employee welfare, upholds fair employment practices, and is committed to fostering a workplace where we actively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. In 2024 and 2025, the company consecutively organized its global trainees to conduct teaching volunteer programs at Hongxi Middle School in Meigu County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, sharing knowledge to support education in remote mountainous areas and actively promoting sustainable development for business, society, and individuals.

"Sustainability is in the DNA of Hitachi Energy's business strategy. Our commitment in this area not only aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but is also deeply connected to the development of our employees, customers, suppliers, and communities," said James Zhao, Executive Vice President and Region Head of Greater China, Hitachi Energy. "This award is a strong recognition of our outstanding sustainability practices. We will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders, deepen operational sustainability, and leverage innovative technologies to advance electrification and help achieve global climate goals."

In 2022, Hitachi Energy received two accolades from Forbes China: Best Employer and Most Sustainable Employer, underscoring its industry-leading position in talent strategy and sustainable development.
