Hitachi Energy expands power semiconductor production at Swiss site

Press Release | Switzerland | 24.06.2026 | 2 min read

New facility reinforces long-term commitment to advanced power semiconductor manufacturing and sustainable growth

Hitachi Energy, a global leader in electrification, today marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking of a new facility at its power semiconductor manufacturing site in Lenzburg, Switzerland. This underscores the company’s commitment in expanding its operations and strengthening its production capacity to meet the growing global demand for semiconductors and power electronics from utility, industry, data center, and transportation sectors.

The expansion is part of Hitachi Energy’s $9 billion USD global investment program to increase capacity and add 15,000 people to scale manufacturing, R&D, and digitalization, including boosting efficiency through AI-enabled processes. With this, the award-winning, highly automated semiconductor site in Lenzburg will further contribute to scale production, enhance operational performance, and reliably serve production, enhance operational performance, and reliably serve customers worldwide.

As Hitachi Energy builds the grid and leads the evolution of the energy system toward a fully electrified world, power semiconductors play an essential role. It enables the efficient conversion and control of electricity in applications, such as HVDC transmission, wind and solar integration, grid stabilization solutions, and energy storage systems, and forms the backbone of a stable and modern grid.

“This groundbreaking represents a significant step in strengthening our semiconductor footprint and expanding our production capacity in a targeted and sustainable way. This investment reflects our long-term commitment to Switzerland as a key hub for power semiconductor manufacturing, while also creating a modern and attractive working environment for our people and partners.”

Rainer Kaesmaier, Managing Director of Semiconductors at Hitachi Energy

Designed by ATP Architekten Ingenieure Zürich AG, the new six-level building will consolidate office functions into a modern, purpose-built workspace, enabling the optimization of existing production areas and the freeing up of critical space for expanded manufacturing operations.

Once completed, the new building will provide almost 200 new workstations, as well as meeting and focus rooms, a dedicated customer-support area, collaborative zones, and improved IT services. The logistics section will include automated storage infrastructure and specialized rooms to enable higher throughput and support the site’s growing manufacturing requirements.

Construction of the new building will run from 2026 through 2027 for the office areas, with logistics-related works continuing into 2028. Throughout the project, Hitachi Energy will work closely with ATP Architekten Ingenieure Zürich AG, local authorities, and partners to ensure safe and efficient execution while minimizing disruption to ongoing production.
