R&D Internship in Product Evaluation and Qualification 80 - 100% (f/m/d)

The opportunity

In our product evaluation and qualification team (PEQ) at Hitachi Energy Semiconductors, we make sure to get to the bottom of things and deliver faultless robust semiconductor chips and power modules through a rigorous qualification process. Our products are delivered to a wide range of customers worldwide for different industrial applications as well as renewable energy, traction and E-mobility. As an intern, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing a test system that can perform stress tests of semiconductors with intermediate threshold measurements. You will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of experienced engineers and gain hands-on experience with system design, PCB design, programming and testing methods. In addition to gaining valuable technical skills, this internship offers numerous benefits. You will work in a dynamic and supportive environment where your ideas and contributions are valued. You will also have the chance to collaborate on exciting projects related to next-generation semiconductor chips and power modules. The internship duration is 6 - 12 months.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Contribute to the design of test system and/or software that can perform reliability and electrical measurements on Silicon and Silicon Carbide semiconductors according to given specifications

  • Implement the test system / software using appropriate hardware and software components

  • Ensure the system can measure required values with sufficient accuracy during the test

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with the test system / software as they arise

  • Document the design, implementation, and testing of the system/software in a clear and concise manner, including diagrams, code comments, and test results

  • Collaborate with the team to ensure the test system / software meets project requirements

  • Present the results of the test system and software to the team and demonstrate its functionality

Your background

  • Currently pursuing Masters or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Semiconductors, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • Knowledge of digital and analog circuit design, as well as programming languages such as C, C++, or Python

  • Familiarity with various test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and independently to resolve technical challenge

  • Business fluency in written and spoken English with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively document the design and present results to the team

  • A self-starter with the willingness to learn new concepts and technologies related to semiconductor testing aw well as reliability measurement
