The Bhadla-Fatehpur link is designed to transmit 6,000 MW of power, connecting the renewable energy-rich region of Bhadla in Rajasthan with the industrial load center of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. The project forms part of India’s “500 GW by 2030” clean energy ambition. With many solar and wind resources located in remote areas, high capacity transmission systems are essential for delivering clean energy to population centers and industrial regions with concentrated demand.
The project crosses 950 kilometres and operates at a DC voltage level of 800 kV. To support reliable long-distance tranmission, it is configured as a bi-pole system with bi-directional power transfer capability.
The project scope includes converter transformers, AC/DC control and protection systems, thyristor valves, 765 kV/400 kV grid connections, and auxiliary systems. These components are being delivered by Hitachi Energy India Ltd., in collaboration with its consortium partner Bharath Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), and are scheduled to be commissioned by 2029.
