The Opportunity:

As a Control & Protection Software - Project Engineer for HVDC Service at Hitachi, Ltd., you will be responsible for the successful execution of control and protection software projects within our High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) service division. This role involves contributing to all phases of the project lifecycle, from design and development to testing, commissioning, and ongoing support, ensuring the reliability and performance of HVDC systems.

How you’ll make an impact:

* Design, develop, and implement control and protection software solutions for HVDC converter stations, considering system requirements, specifications, and industry standards.
* Configure and parameterize control and protection systems, including sequence control, regulation loops, and fault detection mechanisms.
* Conduct thorough testing and validation of software applications, including factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).
* Participate in the commissioning of HVDC systems on-site, providing expert support for software-related issues and optimizations.
* Troubleshoot and diagnose software and system problems during commissioning and operational phases, implementing effective solutions.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, system engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless project execution.
* Prepare technical documentation, including software design specifications, test plans, and operation manuals.
* Provide technical support and training to customers and internal teams on HVDC control and protection systems.
* Stay updated with the latest advancements in HVDC technology, control systems, and software engineering practices.
* Adhere to Hitachi's quality standards, safety regulations, and project timelines.

Your background:

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
* Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in control and protection software development for power systems, preferably with HVDC or FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems).
* Strong understanding of HVDC technology, converter topologies (e.g., VSC, LCC), and their control principles.
* Proficiency in programming languages relevant to industrial control systems (e.g., C/C++, IEC 61131-3 languages).
* Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and industrial communication protocols (e.g., IEC 61850).
* Familiarity with simulation tools for power systems (e.g., PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink).
* Knowledge of cybersecurity principles applicable to industrial control systems.
* Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
* Willingness to travel internationally for commissioning, testing, and customer support activities.
